Basic knowledge of Saw blades Ⅱ

Woodworking saw blades and its categories

What is a woodworking saw blade?

Woodworking saw blades include several parameters such as the type of alloy head, the material of the matrix, diameter, number of teeth, thickness, tooth shape, angle and aperture, which determine the machining ability and cutting performance of the saw blades. When choosing a saw blade, it is necessary to choose the saw blade correctly according to the type of cutting material, thickness, cutting speed, cutting direction, feeding speed and saw kerf width.

Categories of woodworking saw blades:

1. According to different materials: HSS saw blade, solid carbide saw blade, tungsten steel saw blade, diamond saw blade and etc.

2. According to the application situation: milling cutter saw blade, machine saw blade, manual saw blade, special metal saw blade (aluminum saw blade, copper saw blade, stainless steel saw blade and etc.), cutting pipe circular saw blade, woodworking saw blade, stone saw blade, acrylic saw blade and etc.

3. According to the surface coating: white hacksaw blade (original color), nitriding saw blade (black), titanium-Plated saw blade (gold), chromium nitride (colors), etc.

4. Other categories and titles: cutting saw blade, parting saw blade, grooving saw blade, incision saw blade, integral saw blade, ultra-thin saw blade and ect.

Diamond saw blades and its categories

Diamond saw blade Types:

1. Natural diamond tools

After fine grinded, Natural crystal diamond tool’s cutting edge can be very sharp, cutting edge radius can reach to 0.002μm, can achieve ultra-thin cutting, can be processed out of extremely high workpiece precision and very low surface roughness. It is recognized as an ideal ultra-precision machining tool.

2. PCD diamond tool

PCD raw materials are abundant and its price is only one-tenth of natural diamond. PCD tools can not be grinded to extremely sharp edges, and the surface quality of the processed workpiece is not as good as that of natural diamond. PCD blades with chip breaking grooves cannot be easily manufactured in the industry nowadays. Therefore, PCD can only be used for fine cutting of non-ferrous and non-metallic metals, and it is difficult to achieve ultra-precision mirror cutting.

3. CVD diamond tool

The performance of CVD diamond is very close to natural diamond. It has the advantages of natural single crystal diamond and polycrystalline diamond (PCD), and overcomes their shortcomings to some extent.

Characteristics of diamond saw blade:

1. Extremely high hardness and wear resistance

Natural diamond is the hardest substance that has been found in nature. Diamond has extremely high wear resistance, and the cutting life of diamond tool is 10 ~ 100 times, even hundreds of times as high as carbide tool when processing high hardness material.

2. It has a very low friction coefficient

The friction coefficient between diamond and some non-ferrous metals is lower than that of other cutting tools. The friction coefficient is low and the deformation is small during machining, which can reduce the cutting force.

3. The cutting edge is very sharp:

The cutting edge of diamond tools can be sharpened to a maximum of 0.002 ~ 0.008μm for ultra-thin cutting and ultra-precision machining.

4. High thermal conductivity

The thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of diamond are high, the cutting heat is easy to be released, and the cutting temperature is low.

5. High cost performance

It has high cost performance and strong durability.
